LOCIS is the Library Of Congress Online Database. It lists materials copyrighted before 1978, as opposed to the U.S Copyright Office Database which lists materials copyrighted after 1978.

Great place to check old movies!

I think it's too good to be true; it seems to show only those materials entered into the Library of Congress, and then only the initial entry. I tried a few films that I know were renewed (Black Castle, Fourteen Hours, Eight Iron Men and one or two more) and got no hits (for the films) for original entry into the L/C, let alone for renewals (which there indeed are).

So it's not at all reliable, oh well.
